Great hospitality begins with inclusivity. At Shake Shack, we aim to create that inclusive environment by sponsoring and uplifting our Employee Resource Groups. In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) month, we’re highlighting AARCH, our AAPI Employee Resource Group!

AARCH started in 2020 with the mission to grow a sense of community and support for Asian American and Pacific Islander Team Members at all levels of the company. AARCH stands for ‘Asian Americans Represented Connected Heard’, which represents the group’s hope for what it means to be an Asian American employee at Shake Shack—with connotations of strength, connectedness and standing up for oneself and others.

AARCH not only meets monthly to collaborate and share experiences, but also contributes to our company culture as a whole with their internal education and connection efforts.

AARCH Lunar New Year Celebration
AARCH celebrated Lunar New Year by bringing bubble tea & onigiri to the office (along with a Fortune tree!) while speaking about the meaning of the New Year.

Some of AARCH's initiatives and accomplishments include:

  • Promoting and celebrating holidays like Lunar New Year, Holi and Ramadan

  • Hosting community events steeped in tradition like an Origami class, available to all company employees

  • Creating and maintaining an internal webpage where all Shake Shack AAPI employees can connect and celebrate their accomplishments—especially promotions

  • Creating an upbeat, Asian-led playlist for the office to enjoy during May

  • Planning and hosting office fireside chats with AAPI partners and guests like Jordan Andino, Paul Ryu and Simon Kim

AARCH recently had Simon Kim of COTE Korean Steakhouse come speak at the Shake Shack Home Office.

Members of AARCH say their vision for AARCH’s future is to enable Shake Shack employees to thrive both personally and professionally. They also aim to give back to the broader AAPI community (locally and nationally) through volunteer events. This year, they hosted APEX for Youth at the office—a group that aims to uplift underserved Asian youth in New York City.

“We are creating a supportive place for Shack team members who share a common identity” said AARCH Chairwoman Jasmine Alonsozana. “Through representation, community and engagement, AARCH will play a crucial role in building a diverse workplace for all.”

We’re proud of AARCH for all the work they do and continue to support our Employee Resource Groups in Standing for Something Good every day.
