Say Cheese! Shake Shack Teams up With Famed Butcher Pat Lafrieda to Bring Specialty Cheesesteak to the Madison Square Park Shack for One Day Only

Shake Shack is thrilled to team up with our friend and longtime partner, famed butcher Pat LaFrieda, to bring New York City a one-day-only collaboration. On Tuesday, April 3rd while supplies last, the Madison Square Park Shack will be serving up the brand-new, limited-edition Shack Cheesesteak.

The Shack Cheesesteak ($9.95) features Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors shaved steak, Shack Cheddar and American cheese sauce, caramelized onions and chopped cherry peppers on a hero roll. (Available starting at 11am; limited quantities)

The best part? $1 from every Shack Cheesesteak purchased will benefit the Bob Woodruff Foundation. Founded in 2006 after reporter Bob Woodruff was hit by a roadside bomb while covering the war in Iraq, the foundation has since led an enduring call to action for people to stand up for heroes and meet the emerging and long-term needs of today’s veterans. To date, BWF has invested more than $42 million to find, fund and shape programs that have empowered more than 2.5 million impacted veterans, service members and their families.

“Me and Shake Shack go way back, so I’m thrilled to collaborate with them yet again on this Shack Cheesesteak,” said Pat LaFrieda, CEO of Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors. “As a veteran myself, I’m incredibly proud that this collaboration benefits the Bob Woodruff Foundation and their support of injured service members, veterans and families.”

Pat LaFrieda owns and operates New York City’s most prestigious meat packing facility, Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, supplying many of the city’s finest restaurants. LaFrieda has been a friend of Shake Shack since the very first Shack in Madison Square Park, helping us create a proprietary burger blend based on a superior grind of whole muscles, no trimmings or added fat and ground fresh – always. Dubbed by New York Magazine as “the magician of meat”, LaFrieda has earned cult-like status. He’s created over 50 custom hamburger blends and is the mastermind behind such acclaimed burgers as Minetta Tavern, Spotted Pig, Union Square Café, Blue Smoke and more. In 2003, New York City even renamed the street where the shop was located to Pat LaFrieda Lane.

“We’ve been working with Pat since our earliest days at Madison Square Park, so it’s only fitting to bring this collab back where it all started,” said Mark Rosati, Culinary Director at Shake Shack. “The Shack Cheesecake showcases everything that makes Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors the best butcher in New York.”
