Now Serving in San Francisco: Shake Shack x Dominique Crenn Collab

This week, as part of our Now Serving Series we’re heading to San Francisco to kick off a collaboration with three Michelin-starred restauranteur Dominique Crenn, co-owner and chef of Atelier Crenn!

Keeping it local

When it comes to partnerships, it’s no secret that we keep our standards high—seeking out leaders in the culinary industry to bring our guests crave-worthy menu items made with local, quality ingredients. We’re thrilled to join forces with Chef Crenn to serve San Fran Shack fans Dominique Crenn’s Grilled Cheese for a good cause.

This one-day-only collab sandwich features Bohemian Creamery’s Boho Belle organic cow’s milk cheese, Bleu Belle Farm tomatoes, onion jam, and Tartine sourdough.

Good eats for a good cause

Net proceeds from Dominique Crenn’s Grilled Cheese will be donated to La Cocina in support of their newly opened Municipal Marketplace in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. The funds raised will go towards supporting and creating economic opportunities for immigrant women and businesses owned by women of color.

Meet the chef

We recently sat down with Chef Crenn to get the scoop on everything from the inspiration behind Atelier Crenn to her go-to Shack order:

Tell us about yourself and your career.

My name is Dominique Crenn, and I am the co-owner and chef of Atelier Crenn in San Francisco. I focus on cuisine as a craft and the community as an inspiration. In 2018, I became the first female chef in the US to receive three Michelin Stars! I like to stay constantly active in the international culinary community, promoting innovation, sustainability, and equality.

What inspired you to open Atelier Crenn and what is Bleu Belle Farm?

I was driven by my passion to create a deeply personal project. Atelier Crenn is a place to express my heritage as well as an ode to “poetic culinaria”.

Bleu Belle is my farm that provides all the produce we use at Atelier Crenn. Located in Sonoma, Bleu Belle uses organic and biodynamic farming practices. With deliveries coming to the restaurant several times a week, the menu is inspired by the beautiful produce grown at the farm.

Can you break down the flavors of Dominique Crenn’s Grilled Cheese? What inspired the ingredients/flavors?

My grilled cheese is inspired by the beautiful city of San Fransisco and the communities that surround it! The cheese is a triple cream from Bohemian Creamery, the onion and tomatoes come from my very own farm, and the sourdough bread is fresh from Tartine Bakery.

Of all the restaurants in the world, why partner with Shake Shack?

I wanted to work with Shake Shack to create something beautiful together. This collaboration represents a special connection between neighbors and is a fun event for the community!
